Our Story

IMIS products are the result of a ancient rich Telugu culture manufacture and medicinal culture, that weaves traditional benefits into our modern lives.

1890
Ayurveda Vidwan and Bhishagratna P.C. Ayyavarappaya treated patients and prepared his own Ayurvedic medicines. Over time, he began supplying these remedies to other Vaidyas across the then Madras Presidency, receiving orders and dispatching medicines through the Indian postal system. According to legend, a post office was established in the village of Peridepi to meet the growing demand for these medicinal deliveries.
1921
Ayurveda Vidwan and Bhishagratna P.C. Ayyavarappayya authored 'Ayurveda Vaidya Sangrahamu' volumes 1 & 2 in Telugu. The first volume contains over 600 treatment modes, and the second volume is a book of formulations which went into several reprints thereafter. He also authored an Ayurvedic medical dictionary and other treaties.
1929
"In 1929, Vaidya Vidwan Dubagunta Subramaniam arrived in Vijayawada with a small chest of herbs and medicines, a deep knowledge of Ayurveda, and an unwavering commitment to serve the ailing and needy. Continuing the legacy of Ayurveda Vidwan and Bhishagratna P.C. Ayyavarappayya, he began formulating and preparing his own Ayurvedic medicines locally, laying the foundation for a lifelong tradition of healing."
1956
"Dr. D.L. Narayana (B.Com, DAM) carried forward the rich legacy of his father, Vaidya Vidwan Dubagunta Subramaniam, and grandfather, Ayurveda Vidwan and Bhishagratna P.C. Ayyavarappayya. Establishing a successful clinical practice in Vijayawada, he responded to the growing demand for quality Ayurvedic medicines by expanding manufacturing and distribution across the combined Andhra Pradesh under the name Indian Medicines Sales House (IMSH)."
1970

"Dr. D.L. Narayana, along with his spouse Dr. D. Indumathi, established an independent manufacturing unit under the name Indian Medicine Industries (IMIS). In addition to his contributions to Ayurvedic practice, Dr. Narayana edited and published the Telugu journal ‘Indian Medicine’, which was widely circulated among Ayurvedic physicians across the combined Andhra Pradesh. The journal became a valuable platform for sharing best practices and fostering collaboration within the Ayurvedic community."

1976

Introduction of proprietary tablet formulations and a range of new syrups.

1981
IMIS Pharmaceuticals was incorporated as a Private Limited company, formalizing its operations and paving the way for future growth.
1988
A new factory was constructed at the current premises, marking a significant step in the company's growth and expansion.
1993
Empanelled as a recognized supplier for the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS)
2004
"A new GMP-compliant manufacturing block was inaugurated, marking the first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh."
2010
